Gloria
Process Notes
This piece is part of a 100-day drawing challenge I undertook last summer and fall, where I created a new face each day. Gloria is Day 45.
She was drawn entirely from imagination — I didn’t reference a photo or base her on anyone in particular. I simply started sketching, and this face emerged on its own.
The illustration is a digital print using a two-colour palette of purple and gold. Using a limited colour palette gives the piece a timeless character, while also evoking the tactile, print-like quality of traditional screen printing.
Sometimes a finished drawing surprises me, and this is one of those times. I feel like I know Gloria, as if she just jumped right out of the page.
