Sal’s Gonna Kill Me

Process Notes

I started this drawing while waiting at an airport on my way back from a holiday last January. This poor fella’s bus didn’t show up, and he’s not looking forward to facing the brunt of Sal’s anger when he finally gets to his destination.

The illustration was created using a similar process to Foxes’ Reel: a limited colour palette with separate layers for each colour, drawing from the methods of traditional printmaking. I love this approach because it allows room for unpredictability. The small variations and “happy accidents” in the marks give the piece personality, capturing charm and unpredictability of analogue prints. Using these brushes digitally lets me bring that tactile, human quality back into the work, making each illustration feel alive while retaining a clean, intentional composition.
